About Us
NOW Care began business November 4, 1984 with our first location in Minnetonka, Minnesota. We opened additional centers in August of 1989 in Roseville, September of 1993 in Eagan, and in September of 1995 we opened our first Urgent Care Clinic outside the metro area in Mankato. We have expanded our Roseville Urgent Care Center; this facility is currently our largest dual track medical center with over 6000 square feet. Our new Minnetonka Urgent Care Clinic is a 10,000 sq. ft multi-specialty center. This center has myofacial massage therapy, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, day spa, and fitness & running store with personal coaching. NOW Care opened its fifth Urgent Care Clinic in Elk River, MN in August, 2000. NOW Care will continue to develop additional Urgent Care Centers throughout the Twin Cities, greater Minnesota, as well as a National Urgent Care Delivery System.
NOW Care operates as an Urgent Care Center, (UCC). An Urgent Care Clinic specializes in Urgent Care and does not practice primary care medicine. The Urgent Care practice of medicine is directed at 85% of an individual's medical care needs. NOW Care does not treat, nor manage medical cases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, OB, or other chronic medical condition that we feel belong in a primary or specialty care office. NOW Care is committed to the referral of these cases to the local private practice community.
NOW Care is designed to be convenient to our customers. We are open seven days per week; thirteen hours per day Monday through Friday and eight hours per day on Saturday and Sunday. Our facilities are staffed with full time physicians and medical staff; our busier clinics also staff full time physician assistants. No appointments are required. Some patients that visit NOW Care do not have a primary care physician. Approximately 75% of our practice is made up of our regular patients and families. NOW Care provides the majority of their episodic health care needs including minor emergencies and episodic minor medical problems. Many primary care physicians request that NOW Care see their patients after hours, on weekends, and when they are closed or their schedules are full.
NOW Care has a very significant practice in WorkComp called NOW Care WorkRite. Multiple locations, affordability, convenience, and having a physician continuously available in the medical center has provided a very popular service to employers for work-related injuries. NOW Care provides a full range of pre-placement exams, drug surveillance, and on-site safety services. We are a full care management system with integrated physical therapy service at each medical center. NOW Care will soon have the "state of the art" case management system in place with its new dual track center in Roseville. NOW Care has over 1000 companies under direct contract.
NOW Care participates with a majority of health plans on a "Fee for Service" payment. Most HMOs and medical practices use NOW Care as an alternative to the Emergency Room and as an entry point for an affordable evaluation and/or provision of Urgent Care services. As an example, the use of NOW Care services can save $16.5 million for just Blue Cross & Blue Shield.
NOW Care continues to enjoy a good deal of success in addressing the demands of the health care system. NOW Care is the only multi-center integrated UCC delivery system and WorkComp management system in the Twin Cities.
